Kaye Donachie’s paintings take inspiration from the lives and works of female figures from the past.

This painting takes inspiration from Iris Tree’s appearance in the film La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini. In this film Tree plays herself as a poet. The work draws upon the idea of fiction mirroring reality within a cinematic narrative, as well as the emotive tone of her poetry to re-imagine Iris Tree within the painting.

The title of the painting “Meandering in bleared Forgetfulness” is a line taken from an Iris Tree poem called "Winding Down the Street in Wearied Gaiety" from 1913.
